Nestled at the foot of Mount Caburn These are in a group of eight flint and brick cottages ranging from 1-3 bedrooms. They are close to the historic town of Lewes and within easy reach of Glyndebourne. One of the world's best-known opera houses, is approx. 2 miles from us.
Local shops: In Glynde village there is a very good local shop with a post office (approx. 1 mile). The nearest supermarkets are Waitrose and Tesco in Lewes (approx. 2 miles).
Places of interest: Lewes is a historic market town with many interesting buildings including a Norman castle and keep, a museum, Anne of Cleves' house and Southover Grange gardens. Within easy reach of the cottages are other lovely places to visit such as Charleston (home of Vanessa Bell and the Bloomsbury group), Batemans (home of Rudyard Kipling), Pevensey Castle and the Royal Pavilion (an exotic oriental palace built for the Prince Regent - later George IV). The Lanes in Brighton are narrow pedestrianised streets where many interesting shops can be found.
Lewes: This is our nearest town with a varied choice of shops including some chain shops and also the local brewery (Harveys). It also has a leisure centre and a golf club on which non-members can play. Mount Caburn and Firle Beacon are popular among paragliders, hangliders and walkers. Once at the top of these high points on the South Downs you can experience breathtaking views of the spectacular scenery.
Brighton: A city approx. 9 miles away with an excellent range of shops and a new shopping mall. There are also cinemas, bowling alleys, the Theatre Royal, Brighton Centre and an infinite number of restaurants and bars.
Eastbourne: A large town approx. 13 miles away with its own shopping centre, bowling alleys and cinemas. There is also a leisure pool and close by are the famous chalk cliff landmarks of Beachy Head and the Seven Sisters.
Drusillas Zoo: Drusillas Park is very popular with families and is close to the pretty little village of Alfriston, once the haunt of smugglers.
For more details there is a folder in each cottage giving useful information on local pubs, restaurants, theaters and leaflets on places of interest. (Details correct at time of going to print.)
